Every Child Can should mean Every Child Actually Can

Jumping the Inclusion Gap is a campaign calling for a clear and ring fenced funding route for SEND inclusion support within children’s enrichment, play and community activities.

The Government’s Every Child Can pledge is a really positive step as it recognises that children need access to more than lessons and exams. They need sport, play, creativity, nature, confidence, friendships, community and joy.

Howver, for many children with SEND, simply being offered a place is not enough because some children need additional adult support, 1:1 provision, sensory adaptations, communication support, preparation time, flexible approaches or adults with the right training and confidence to support them safely.

I've worked with so many providers who truly care and do all they can to be inclusive but unfortunately providers are often left with three difficult options if a child needs an additional adult:

1. Absorb the cost themselves, which can mean making a loss.

2. Ask a parent or carer to stay, which can affect work, family life, independence and dignity.

3. Say they cannot safely support the child, meaning the child misses out.

Therefore without that ring fenced funded support, the child may still miss out and this is the gap this campaign is trying to close.

So we need your help...

Before the Petition goes live we want to gather evidence and experiences from both SEND parents and providers so we can show the Government the reality of what is currently happening. If you have 5 minutes please do fill in the relevant form below:
